The physics of climate modelling
Join us for an introduction into the field of climate modelling for interested physicists outside the field of climate dynamics.

We will cover the two main approaches to modelling climate:

(1) Energy balance. This approach gives a good starting point in understanding the basics of the earth climate and helps to understand how greenhouse gasses warm the earth.

2) General circulation. This is the approach of state-of-the-art climate models at the high-performance end of climate simulations. A few examples will be shown to illustrate the beauty of these models.

Finally we will discuss current issues in climate modelling. Although, climate models are awesome, they are far from being perfect. It seems that the current climate modelling approach has hit a brick wall and it is unclear how we can further improve models.
